Common Stainless Steel (SS) Grades & Details
Grade 304 (SS304):
- Composition: Contains approximately 18% chromium and 8% nickel.
- Properties: Highly versatile with excellent corrosion resistance and exceptional weldability. It is the most standard commercial grade used for everyday industrial fluid systems and brackets.
Grade 316 (SS316):
- Composition: Contains approximately 16% chromium, 10% nickel, and 2-3% molybdenum.
- Properties: The added molybdenum provides significantly higher resistance to chlorides, marine environments, and harsh chemical pitting. Ideal for high-end automotive plumbing, marine hardware, or chemical processing plants.
Low Carbon Variants (304L / 316L):
- Properties: These options minimize carbide precipitation during the welding process, preserving excellent corrosion protection near the weld joint area.
